BACKGROUND
Development Organisation of the Rural Poor-DORP, a national Non-Government Organization (NGO) established in 1987, has been working in the field of development in different parts of Bangladesh. It came into being in the wake of the devastating 1970 cyclone in the coastal belt of Bangladesh with the objective of helping the affected people rise from the battered condition. In the DORP evolution process, it has experimented various approaches and carried out some action-oriented research with a view to identify directions of its programs with active participation of rural people as program partners. DORP is being run by a three-step macro management system under a three-member Advisory Body, a General Body of Twenty Two members and an Executive Committee of seven members. The pioneer and founder of the DORP, A H M Nouman belongs to the first generation development activist of the country

GOVERNANCE
DORPmaintains transparency and accountability in overall activities. Every year, it holds Annual General Meeting (AGM) regularly. DORP has a good management and a sound accounts system. It is accountable to the regulatory authorities. DORP is registered with the Department of Social Services, where its registration number is: Dhaka– 02499, dated 22-10-90. It is also registered with the NGO Affairs Bureau with the registration no. FDR– 682, dated 02-02-93, and under the Societies Registration Act, it is registered with the registration no. S–2787(200)/2002, dated 30-05-2002, and lastly, it is registered with the Micro Credit Regulatory Authority where its registration no. is: 01795-01411-00185, Dated: 25-03-2008. Permitted area of its operation is entire Bangladesh as approved by the Department of Social Services of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Registrations with above mentioned regulatory authorities constitute the legal basis of DORP.

COVERAGE AREA
Currently DORP’s activities are spread over 3000 villages of 54 Upazilas (sub-district) under 20 Districts, and approximately 2 million men, women and children of 4,00,000 households are receiving support services from 11 DORP projects. DORP operates its project activities from its central office at Dhaka known as the DORP HOME and assisted by 63 field offices manned by 450 staffs (310 male and 140 female) and 1040 volunteers. DORP offices are well equipped with modern office machineries. DORP operates its various inititives through following 3 divisions :

» 2. HR Management, Finance and Accounts (MFA) Division
» 3. Research, Evaluation and Monitoring (REM) Division
